Getting a U.S. passport in Texas in 2026 requires an in-person appointment — whether you're applying for the first time, renewing, or need it urgently. This guide covers your options near Kyle, Buda, and San Marcos in Hays County: USPS acceptance offices, Travis County, UT Austin, and the Dallas Passport Agency for urgent travel.

If you also need notarization or document authentication for your passport, we can help with that too.

Do You Need an Appointment?

Most passport acceptance offices in Texas require an appointment. Walk-ins are accepted at some locations but are subject to early cutoff at management's discretion.

The Dallas Passport Agency (for urgent travel within 14 days) is by appointment only — you cannot walk in.

Book early: appointments fill 2–4 weeks out during peak travel season (March–July).

What to Bring to Your Passport Appointment

  • Form DS-11 (for new passports) — download and fill out, but DO NOT SIGN until instructed by the acceptance officer
  • Proof of U.S. citizenship — certified birth certificate, naturalization certificate, or previous U.S. passport
  • Government-issued photo ID — driver's license, state ID, or military ID
  • Photocopy (front and back) of your ID
  • Passport photo — 2"x2", white background, taken within 6 months
  • Payment — $130 application fee (check or money order to "U.S. Department of State") + $35 acceptance fee (cash, check, or card to the acceptance facility)
  • For minors under 16: both parents must appear. If one parent cannot be present, a notarized DS-3053 (Statement of Consent) from the absent parent is required
  • Minors Under 16 — Notarized Parental Consent

If you're applying for a passport for a child under 16 and one parent cannot be present at the appointment, the absent parent must provide a notarized DS-3053 (Statement of Consent) form.

This is one of the most common reasons passport appointments fail — the missing notarized consent form causes the application to be rejected on the spot.

We provide notarization in Kyle, TX for DS-3053 forms and other passport-related documents. Same-day appointments available.

    How Long Does It Take?

  • Expedited processing: 2–3 weeks (+$60 fee)
  • Urgent — Dallas Passport Agency (travel within 14 days): same appointment or 1–5 business days
  • Passport photo: same day at most acceptance facilities
  • Need Notarization for Your Passport?

Two common passport situations require notarization:

  • 1
DS-3053 (Parental Consent) — if one parent cannot appear at the appointment for a child under 16, the absent parent's signature must be notarized on this form.
  • 2
Apostille on U.S. documents — if your birth certificate or passport will be used in another country, you may need an apostille authentication from the Texas Secretary of State.
  • We handle both at our Kyle, TX office. Schedule a notary appointment or learn about apostille services in Kyle, TX.
